Highams Park Arts Trail

'Beyond Bloom' is my contribution to the Highams Park Arts Trail, which is taking place from 2nd - 18th May, although my exhibition will be up for all of May in Humphry's Cafe, in the actual Highams Park.
‘Beyond Bloom’ focuses on the ways to preserve flowers and plants, allowing their image to last beyond their final bloom. The bright images bring together digitally scanned pressed flowers, line-drawings and silhouettes of real plants to preserve them and draw attention to the little details in each plant. The digital process results in the plants looking almost painted and highlights all the different colours and textures found in a single petal or a leaf.
The exhibition consists of printed onto card images, but also printed onto organic cotton. These framed pictures are both digitally printed but also one cyanotype as I always have to have at least one cyanotype around!
As well as designing A3 size prints using flowers, a set of 6 images of herbs was also developed. Using the same process, herbs were pressed before being scanned and then added next to line-drawings and silhouettes. While herbs often appear 'green', digitally scanning them reveals all the different greens and textures in one leaf

Alongside the printed images, a row of tea towels were hung up, as if on a 'washing line'. I hope people can imagine using these when drying up and add colour to their kitchen.
The image of the right is the cyanotype (sun print) featuring anemones, wild geraniums and grasses.
